Collection

The American Library holds a book collection with over
6000 titles by American authors. Most of the books are published in the
U.S. with the exception of Shakespeare and The Encyclopaedia Britannica.
The books are on various topics and genres:

Non-fiction: philosophy, social sciences,
politics, economics, law, history

Natural sciences, technology, geography,
literature, art.

Fiction: classics, contemporary novels, detective
stories, science fiction, children’s books
- Reference: encyclopaedias, dictionaries, almanacs, atlases, study
guides

| Periodicals |
The American Library offers free access to 35 American
magazines and the daily newspaper The Wall Street Journal Europe.
Periodicals may not be checked out. Patrons must use them inside the
library only.

| Reference Collection |
The reference collection consists of books on a
variety of fields: U.S. government, business, history, education,
literature and art. There are also encyclopedias, dictionaries,
almanacs, directories, atlases, literature reviews and study guides.
Reference materials are intended for use inside the library only and may
not be checked out. |

EBSCO
Database of citations, abstracts, and full-text magazine articles.
Over 10.000 periodicals are indexed and abstracted. The database is
updated daily and includes full-text articles from 1,500 journals.
Articles may be overloaded or e-mailed.
This database is available via the Library Internet workstations only.

Information USA
An excellent resource for foreign audiences seeking information about
American society, political processes, official U.S. policy and
culture.

| Video collection
 |
The collection consists of over 120 American films on
DVD. These films are among the best American films (feature,
documentary, animated cartoons) from the last 60 years. The Public
Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine donated this collection,
along with equipment for showing the films.

The American Library has a film viewing program
Friday Film Evenings.
Every Friday at 6 p.m., library patrons are invited to watch an American
film and discuss it with a native English speaker.
